Globally Optimal and Nash Equilibrium Solutions for Traffic Flow on Networks

چکیده

We consider a conservation law model of traffic flow on a network of roads, where drivers choose their departure times in order to minimize the sum of a departure cost and an arrival cost. Drivers can have different origins and destinations, and different cost functions. Under natural assumptions, two main results have been established: (i) the existence of a globally optimal solution, minimizing the sum of the costs to all drivers, and (ii) the existence of a Nash equilibrium solution, where no driver can lower his own cost by changing his departure time or the route taken to reach destination. In the special case of one single road, the global optimum and the Nash equilibrium are uniquely determined.

Existence of optima and equilibria for traffic flow on networks

This paper is concerned with a conservation law model of traffic flow on a network of roads, where each driver chooses his own departure time in order to minimize the sum of a departure cost and an arrival cost. The model includes various groups of drivers, with different origins and destinations and having different cost functions. Under a natural set of assumptions, two main results are prove...

Optimal Signal Control in Urban Road Networks with High Priority Congested Centers

Keeping the density of traffic flow and air pollution in an acceptable level and developing a good capacity for transit in the high priority areas of the city, is really a big deal in large and crowded cities. To address this problem, a new method of intersection signal optimization is presented in this paper. Based on network fundamental diagrams, an Internal–External Traffic Metering Strategy...

Optima and equilibria for traffic flow on networks with backward propagating queues

The paper studies an optimal decision problem for several groups of drivers on a network of roads. Drivers have different origins and destinations, and different costs, related to their departure and arrival time. On each road the flow is governed by a conservation law, while intersections are modeled using buffers of limited capacity, so that queues can spill backward along roads leading to a ...

Optimal Harmonization of Out-Network Traffic Control Regulations in Social Networks

Regulations of use of social networks, as one of the key components in these networks, serve an important role in controlling the flow of traffic. The study of the harmonization of these terms and regulations can be a significant step to avoid congestion and (Users’) rejection in the network. Harmonization of traffic control regulations (TCR) among social networks is one of the best solutions t...

Optima and Equilibria for a Model of Traffic Flow

The paper is concerned with the Lighthill-Whitham model of traffic flow, where the density of cars is described by a scalar conservation law. A cost functional is introduced, depending on the departure time and on the arrival time of each driver. Under natural assumptions, we prove the existence of a unique globally optimal solution, minimizing the total cost to all drivers. This solution conta...
